Summer Goodwin

Hi, I’m Summer. I’m a professional writer, coach and mentor.

I have worked in communications for 25 years, starting out as a print journalist in 1996. I was a mature-age university student and completed my undergraduate degree as a sole parent. I did my journalism placement at the Fremantle Herald. I graduated within the top five per cent of Murdoch University students. I moved to Darwin in 2005, with an eight year old son and a portfolio of 50 published articles.

It took me eight months to get a job at News Corp’s NT News. I worked as a feature journalist and business reporter, before being headhunted for a digital content role at Charles Darwin University. After 10 years in print, I thrived in digital media. In 2010, my son received a scholarship and we moved to Melbourne. Universities were early adopters of social media. In 2013, my team at Swinburne University of Technology was awarded for achieving the second-highest Facebook engagement in Australia’s education sector. I went on to work at Yarra Trams and digital marketing agency Green Hat.

I’ve worked in leadership and management roles for the past 10 years. I’ve continued my professional education by completing short courses including Leader as Coach, Managing Difficult People, and Counselling for Managers. I was mentored by Trevor Young in the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) mentoring program. I’ve been part of leadership teams at Swinburne, Yarra Trams, Green Hat and CSIRO. I’ve presented at conferences and mentored many young people in their early careers.

Today I lead the editorial and content team at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency. I work to develop creative, collaborative and courageous teams, and the next generation of leaders. I’m an accredited coach and professional mentor. I coach leaders at every level to build capability and confidence. I’d love to work with you.
