Welcome to Sun on my Parade

“Even though you get a little twinge every now and again with the years marching on and become aware of your own mortality, you realise you’re only limited by your imagination.” ~ Ita Buttrose

Welcome to Sun on my Parade – a digital magazine and online community of women celebrating the second half of life.

I’ve wanted to create this website for several years now. Mum and I brainstormed names for the venture (thanks Mum!) this time last year. But it wasn’t until last month, when my son finished 13 years of school, that I decided it was time! It’s too easy to find reasons not to start a new project – I’m too busy, too tired, it might not work, [insert any excuse here] – but I decided to feel the fear and do it anyway. I’m moving beyond motherhood into an exciting new stage of my life and I’d love to share this journey with other women. I invite you to become part of our community and share your story with us.

A special thanks to Jacqui and Samantha from Imagine Ellie for creating our beautiful original artwork. If you’re looking for unique Christmas gifts, check out their site immediately! A big thanks also to my son for helping me with troubleshooting and code, and to my friends and family for their early story contributions.

This social business is a work-in-progress and I’d love to hear your thoughts about our website, our stories, or anything else you’d like to share. You can email me or connect with @sunonmyparade on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.

Welcome – and I hope you enjoy the journey.

This looks wonderful – well done! Pinterest seems to be huge here in Vancouver, BC, so I’ll catch up with that; and tell my children and their in-laws. Will send useful and interesting comments as they trickle through; unlike Peta and Norah Ephron, my thoughts do not tidal wave…….

Thanks so much Diana – stoked the site has already made it to Canada! Looking forward to your comments and you’re always very welcome to submit a story too. Thanks again for your lovely feedback 🙂

Summer, this is such a great community you have created. Your writing is so inspirational and poignant. am so looking forward to reading all the contributions. I seem to remember you were quite a writer even over 20 years ago when we first met.
Wonderful to read about what I can look forward to in…….12 years. And that is not saying it was wrong to become a mum at 43 🙂
Could be an inspiration for a different kind of community perhaps 😉
